Author Spotlight: Drastic Measures
Some women use drastic measures to break out from “behind the yellow wallpaper.” Here are three authors whose characters will do whatever it takes to get themselves free.
Gabriela Denise Frank is a Detroit native and Seattle resident, and the author of Civita Veritas: An Italian Fellowship Journey, published in 2011. The book documents her experience living in the unique Italian hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio while on a fellowship sponsored by the Northwest Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in Italy. The following year, she was selected to participate in the Jack Straw Writers Program, which introduces Northwest writers to the medium of recorded audio and encourages the creation of new literary works. A 2013 graduate of Artist Trust’s EDGE Development Program for Literary Artists, Gabriela’s work has appeared in a variety of publications including ARCADE, Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, Forum and Trim Tab. Her weekly blog, Hidden City Diaries: Essays from Life, can be found at gabrieladenisefrank.com.

Nikki Vogel lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She was recently awarded an MFA Creative Writing from UBC. In addition to seeking a publishing house for the collection of short stories that comprised her thesis project, Nikki is currently revising a YA novel. When her muse allows her to step away from the computer she plays tennis, cycles and reads voraciously from all genres.
