Author Spotlight: Drastic Measures

Some women use drastic measures to break out from “behind the yellow wallpaper.” Here are three authors whose characters will do whatever it takes to get themselves free.

 

Gabriela Denise FrankGabriela Denise Frank is a Detroit native and Seattle resident, and the author of Civita Veritas: An Italian Fellowship Journey, published in 2011. The book documents her experience living in the unique Italian hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio while on a fellowship sponsored by the Northwest Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in Italy. The following year, she was selected to participate in the Jack Straw Writers Program, which introduces Northwest writers to the medium of recorded audio and encourages the creation of new literary works. A 2013 graduate of Artist Trust’s EDGE Development Program for Literary Artists, Gabriela’s work has appeared in a variety of publications including ARCADE, Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, Forum and Trim Tab. bio_ChaffinsLeah Chaffins is currently working on her MFA at Oklahoma City University. She has short stories and news articles published in The Cameron Goldmine, The Red Earth Review, The Cameron Collegian, Cliterature, and Okie Mag. Chaffins has worked as an editor for both the Goldmine and for CyberSoliel Fine Arts Journal. She also is a university English Instructor where she hopes to share the joy of writing with others. Chaffins writes mostly short horror stories, and memoir. She is nearing completion of her first novel, and the completion of two short story compilations, Gravel Goats, which are memoirs, and Reflecting an Eidola, short horror stories.

 

bio_VogelNikki Vogel lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She was recently awarded an MFA Creative Writing from UBC. In addition to seeking a publishing house for the collection of short stories that comprised her thesis project, Nikki is currently revising a YA novel. When her muse allows her to step away from the computer she plays tennis, cycles and reads voraciously from all genres.
